I graduated from Duke University with a Ph.D. in statistics in 2002. I've held faculty positions at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and at the University of Missouri -- Columbia. Since 2014, I've been a faculty in the Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech. My research focuses on the development of novel statistical methods for important real world problems, especially in critical societal areas such as the environment and human health. I usually develop these methods using the Bayesian paradigm, which allows combination of information from different data sources to improve the accuracy and precision of statistical inferences. I have coauthored three books: on multiscale analysis, on time series analysis, and on spatiotemporal modeling. I have advised over 15 Ph.D. students and postdocs who work in industrial, governmental, and academic positions.
